Old range hoods pose a fire hazard, safety upgrades are urgent
Coincidentally, at noon on March 15 this year, a fire also broke out in the home of an owner in Binhe Yayuan Community, Jinnan District, due to the aging of the kitchen range hood circuit. The property responded urgently and successfully extinguished the fire within 5 minutes.
GB/T 40248-2021 "Fire Safety Management in Crowded Places" issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration clearly stipulates that kitchen flues in crowded areas such as hotels, catering places, hospitals, and schools should be cleaned at least once a quarter. However, in real life, many families and small catering businesses do not pay enough attention to the cleaning and maintenance of range hoods. The grease that has not been cleaned for a long time adheres to the inner wall of the range hood and the pipe, which can easily cause fires when exposed to open flames or high temperatures. At the same time, the aging of internal accessories and the increased risk of circuit failure of the over-service range hood further aggravate the safety hazards. According to national standards, the service life of range hoods is generally 7 years. After this period, the internal oil and dirt are seriously deposited and difficult to clean, the structural components are oxidized and damaged, and the risk of fire increases significantly.
In the face of frequent safety accidents, the industry calls for strengthening publicity and education on the safe use of range hoods to improve the safety awareness of consumers and merchants. At the same time, relevant departments should increase the inspection of kitchen equipment safety in public places and the catering industry, supervise regular cleaning and maintenance, promote the replacement of old range hoods, and reduce fire risks from the source.
